Web
services are an interface
method that allows
computer applications
to send data directly
to one another via
a network, without
a need for a menu system
or graphical user interface
(GUI). Instead, one
computer provides an
interface via a web
address URL, while
the other computer
sends a packet of information
to that address, using
XML as its message
language and Simple
Object Access Protocol
(SOAP) over HTTP as
its transport protocol.
As an analogy, think
of mailing a letter. The letter is written in a language: in this
case, XML. SOAP is the "envelope" that holds the letter and provides
directions for sending the letter. HTTP is the "postal service" that
transports the letter over the Internet to the receiving address,
the URL. More... |
